Bexley Tory apologises for calling Labour councillor a t****r

A Tory councillor who teaches for a living apologised by text for calling his Labour counterpart a t****r.
Councillor Peter Catterall (pictured) who holds the portfolio for leisure, arts and tourism, could be heard across the packed room calling Councillor Munir Malik the expletive as the Labour councillor was on his feet talking about the budget proposals.
But Councillor Catterall was not reprimanded by the mayor Val Clark who was chairing the meeting. He later sent a text to Councillor Malik after the meeting to tell him he had tried to speak to him afterwards and could not find him.
Councillor Malik said: “He apologised profusely. I was shocked as he is one of the most temperate of the councillors and for him to call me that was astonishing. He teaches kids in further education.”
When contacted by the Times Councillor Catterall said: “People sometimes say things they regret in the heat of the moment and rightly apologise thereafter.”
