Big camp fun

Young people from across Bexley headed up to Buckinghamshire for a weekend of sports, creative activities and adventure in the woods last week.

The “big camp” was a council-organised event that brought together 42 11- to 18-year-olds for rope climbing, rocket building, campfires and ghost walks.

Cllr Katie Perrior, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “The residential weekend helped to promote essential life skills like mixing and meeting new people, good communication and teamwork. It was also an opportunity to engage some of our young people in more positive activities over the Hallowe’en weekend.”

One of the children taking part, Sammie, said: “It was a good experience, I made lots of new friends and took part in team challenges. I think it’s good we were taken out.”
