More than 150 young sportsmen and women in Bexley were celebrated on Saturday at the Young People’s Sport’s Awards.

The ceremony took place at Harris Academy Falconwood and featured people nominated for awards by their own sports clubs, teachers, coaches and families.

Cabinet member for leisure services Cllr Don Massey said: “These annual sports awards give our young sportsmen and women an incentive to be the best at their sport. They all deserve gold for their hard work and effort.”

One of the highlights of the evening was the Bexley Boccia team who won an endeavour award, in recognition of achievements made despite difficult circumstances.

The team, coached by Gerry Wooder, all attend Cleeve Park School and have already won the Kent County Schools Competitions. They will now compete in the south regional final and, if victorious will progress to the national final in Sheffield next month.
