Bexleyheath fencer heading to Sheffield for School Games

Bexleyheath fencer Laura Gladdish is heading to Sheffield next month to take part in this year’s Sainsbury’s School Games.
The 15-year-old, who goes to Blackfen School for Girls, will compete from September 12 to 15.
A delighted Laura, who came 10th in the Cadet European Championships this year, said: “I am very excited about being selected because I have been working hard since I first started fencing and being selected highlights this.
“Being chosen for England is very important to me because I love fencing and doing my best for my team.
“My aim for the School Games in the individual evnents is to come in the top four, and in the teams I think we should aim for first place because we have such a strong squad.”
Sainsbury’s Active Kids ambassador, David Beckham, congratulated the teenager: “Laura should be incredibly proud of being selected to compete in the Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games.
“To be given the chance to compete in a multi-sport event and experience a major sporting occasion like this is a huge opportunity for these young people. I wish everyone the best of luck and encourage them to enjoy every minute.”
