Bexleyheath knife murderer Nicola Edgington is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Monday.

The 32-year-old former mental patient was found guilty of murdering 58-year-old grandmother Sally Hodkin and attempting to kill then-22-year-old Sally Clark.

She almost decapitated Mrs Hodkin in the early hours of October 10, 2011 in an unprovoked attack.

Edgington’s defence argued she was mentally ill with paranoid schizophrenia so had diminished responsibility.

The prosecution countered that her actions were deliberate and she was convicted on February 6 after a four week trial.

The incident came six years after she killed her own mother Marion, for which she spent four years in a secure unit after being found guilty of manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
