A pervert from Bexleyheath who groped a 13-year-old girl and masturbated on buses has been jailed.
Michael Kowalski, of Woolwich Road, was sentenced to six weeks in prison at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last month after pleading guilty to outraging public decency and sexual assault.
Police said he attacked his first victim in October on the 320 bus near Downham Way, Downham.
The girl, 13, was walking down the stairs to get off the bus on her way to school when Kowalski grabbed her bottom.
She challenged him, but he ignored her, and she reported the incident after she got off.
Officers from the Bromley Safer Transport Team investigated and gathered intelligence on Kowalski, eventually arresting him at a bus stop near Bromley North station on December 19.
He admitted the offence when interviewed, as well as masturbating on a 51 bus in April 2011 as it travelled down Sevenoaks Way in Orpington.
Kowalski will also be placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
Supt Rob Revill, from the Safer Transport Command, said: “We take all reports of sexual offences on buses seriously and are committed to bringing offenders to justice.”
He urged anyone to report unusual and offensive behaviour on buses to police, however minor it may seem.
Siwan Hayward, Transport for London’s deputy director of enforcement and on-street operations, said: “We will not tolerate this behaviour on our transport network, and through Project Guardian we aim to give passengers greater confidence to report any form of unwanted sexual behaviour with the assurance that we take all reports of this nature seriously.”
Project Guardian is aiming to improve the levels of reporting sexual offences and make the transport network safe.
