The concept of “free cash withdrawals” was taken a bit too far by thieves who ripped out this ATM at Bexleyheath station.

The cash point was spotted in tatters early this morning, with the frontage missing and screen dangling from wires.

But the vandals do not seem to have got away with any money from the machine in Station Road, Bexleyheath.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Bexleyheath station on Wednesday after reports that two men attempted to steal a cash machine.

“The incident was reported to us at 5.25am but is believed to have taken place around 12.30am.

“Initial enquiries suggest that no money is missing from the machine, which is currently being examined.

“Officers are also examining CCTV from the local area as part of their investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting 31 of 26/03/14.

Information can also be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
