The manager of Bexleyheath’s Wilko store donned pirate garb to star in the company’s new television advert.

Manju Malin was one of the buccaneers stalking the aisles of the shop in Broadway to find home and garden products when the advert was filmed there.

She said: “I was over the moon when I found out our store would be the set of the new advert. I love working at Wilko as every day is different – but this really was a day to remember.

“It was so exciting having all my makeup done and dressing up as a pirate, it really made me feel the part. It’s so surreal seeing myself on TV but it makes me feel so proud to be involved.

“I wonder if customers will recognise me in my pirate gear!”

The advert features a pirate captain trying to outdo a rival ship by getting his crew to spruce it up with Wilko products and was launched on screens nationwide on Wednesday.

Managers and team members from other stores also featured.
