RECORD snow fall last winter has prompted an extra cash boost for pensioners at threat from freezing temperatures

RECORD snow fall last winter has prompted an extra cash boost for pensioners at threat from freezing temperatures.

Bexley Age Concern announced a cold weather payout of £19,205 for elderly gas users, amounting to £22.88 each paid for by energy provider E.ON.

Eugene Stakem from Age Concern Bexley said: "As this winter was a particularly harsh one with a record amount of snow falling and temperatures below freezing on 52 days across the UK, we are delighted to be able to help out older people in Bexley who might be struggling with bills in the economic climate."

The payout is in addition to £10 for gas customers aged over 60, rising to £20 for those aged 80 or above.
