Firefighters tackled a blaze at a car workshop believed to contain a number of explosive gas cylinders.

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a car workshop believed to contain a number of explosive gas cylinders.

More than 30 firefighters, were called out to Volks-Apart car part specialists, in Crays Road, Foots Cray, which started at 6.30am yesterday.

Police set up a large cordon fearing the gas cylinders could explode, and traffic was diverted along Foots Cray High Street and Maidstone Road.

Workers from nearby businesses were also evacuated and buses have been placed on diversion.

Fire crews remained on scene as the Times went to press, and were expected to remain there for the rest of Wednesday damping down the building. No one was injured in the blaze.
