BNP candidates bid for seats

A TOTAL of 26 candidates from the British National Party will be amongst 217 hopefuls standing for election at the upcoming local election. Bexley council announced the nomination details on Tuesday for the poll which will take place on Thursday, May 6,

A TOTAL of 26 candidates from the British National Party will be amongst 217 hopefuls standing for election at the upcoming local election.

Bexley council announced the nomination details on Tuesday for the poll which will take place on Thursday, May 6, the same day as the general election.

Conservative and Labour candidates will stand for each of the 63 seats available, while the Liberal Democrats, will contest 40.

The other nominees are made up of independents, the UK Independence Party, English Democrats, the Christian People's Alliance and the Green Party.

Ten of the current councillors, eight of whom are Conservatives, will not stand for re-election on May 6.

Residents who have not yet signed up to vote must return their registration form to the council's elections office by next Tuesday.

Voters who cannot vote in person at a polling booth can apply for a postal vote or vote by proxy by contacting the council.
