STAFF at a waste company found a decomposed male body in the back of a lorry delivering recycling materials on Tuesday afternoon.

STAFF at a waste company found a decomposed male body in the back of a lorry delivering recycling materials on Tuesday afternoon.

The gruesome discovery was made between 2 and 2.30pm in a lorry dropping off rubbish to Viridor Waste, based at Century Wharf, Crayford Creek, Crayford.

Operations were stopped as police cordoned off the area around the body to carry out their inquiries.

A spokesperson for the company said: "A male body was found to have arrived on site in a vehicle with some materials.

"Police are investigating at the moment and we have closed the premises.

"We cannot say when we will re-open so we are looking to provide alternative arrangements for our customers.

"We are obviously co-operating fully with the police."

The company would not confirm where the vehicle had come from before delivering at the base.
