A MINICAB driver accused of sexually touching a 19-year-old girl passenger after picking her up from a nightclub claimed she had invited him into the backseat.

Mark Kidd, 42, of Romborough Way, Lewisham, was acquitted of the charge at Croydon Crown Court last Wednesday.

The woman told the jury that she and a friend came out of the Bar du Musee, Greenwich late at night on June 19 and took a cab which was parked outside.

The friend was dropped off at her home in Catford and the journey continued to the other girl's address in Bromley.

A price of £18 had earlier been agreed.

She said: "He carried on past my house and went to the end of the road. He stopped and got into the back of the cab.

"I told him I needed to get home. He asked: 'Are you going to give me a dance?'

"He kissed me on the face and touched my inner thigh. I kicked him off and got out of the cab and ran home."

Kidd, in evidence, said the trip had been marked with the usual friendly banter.

He said: "She said she was a dancer and she started jigging about in the back seat."

She offered to do a dance for him if the fare was knocked down to a tenner.

Kidd added: "She pointed out where she lived and she told me to pull up a little further along.

"She said: 'Do you want to come in the back and have a quick dance?' I got in the back. She put her hand on my neck . She came close to me and gave me a kiss on the lips and said: 'I've got to go now'

"She opened the door and gave me £10 and she went to her house."

Kidd, a self-employed cab-driver for 12 years, denied touching her on the thigh.
