Council wants to put houses there instead

Campaigners are fighting to save a playground which Bexley Council is planning to sell.

The council says it wants to raze the play area in Old Manor Way, Barnehurst, and put houses there instead.

Campaigners met with Bexleyheath and Crayford MP David Evennett and Barnehurst councillor David Hurt at the park on Saturday morning to discuss their plans.

Mr Evenett said: “I was surprised to learn that the playground was on the list of possible sites to be sold by the council and have been in touch with councillors and cabinet member Alec Sawyer.

“This playground is well used and an important facility which has existed since the Second World War. I do hope the council will not proceed with disposal and will listen to the views of local people.”
