It is the reponsibility of Sports Direct, who own the site, to clear the rubbish

The caravans that had taken up residence at the site of the old Bexley Civic offices have now moved on after being served an enforcement notice by police.

Several caravans had been spotted on the site, opposite the cinema, since June 13, but it was confirmed today, June 19 that they have gone.

A spokesperson for Bexley council, said: “They have now left the site. The police served an enforcement notice requiring the caravans and vehicles to leave the site on June 15.

“The land is owned by Sports Direct who are responsible for removing any rubbish once the site is vacated.”

Multiple rubbish piles have been left behind to be cleared.

Sporting goods supplier, Sports Direct, purchased the site last year, after it had been left vacant by Tesco, who bought it in 2014 from the council.

Sports Direct have been approached for comment.
