Yann Kermorgant’s double ensured Charlton Athletic finished the season on a high as they thrashed relegated Bristol City on Saturday.

After a goalless first-half the Frenchman gave the Addicks the lead two minutes after the interval with a great strike from the edge of the area.

He doubled the lead with a header four minutes later but bottom-of-the-table City halved the deficit after 59 minutes through Bobby Reid.

But Charlton finished the season with a flourish as Jonathan Obika and captain Johnnie Jackson scored in the last 11 minutes to complete a 4-1 victory.

It meant the Addicks finished their first season back in the second tier with eight games without defeat and finished in ninth place, just three points off the play-off spots.

Manager Chris Powell said: “It was a terrific end for us and we did it the right way.

“We have shown we can play in this league and I am a better manager for it and the players are better for the experience.

“Seasons have tended to tail off for us and I wasn’t going to allow it this time, especially at home.”
