Find out when the service returns here
Christmas has come early for Crayford residents waiting for a post office to return to the town.
After losing the service in July last year, the 17-month wait will be over next month, when it returns at a new home in Crayford Library.
On Tuesday, December 5, Crayford Post Office will re-open at 1pm in the library on Town Hall Square.
The new branch will be open for 49 hours each week, and will offer services including bill payment, banking, benefits and travel money, along with postage, banking services and collections.
Suzanne Richardson, Post Office regional network manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
The restored service will provide access via a permanent ramp with handrails and a wide door at the entrance. Internally, the branch will be offered at three positions, one modern screened and two open plan counter positions, incorporating low-level facilities.
David Evennett, Bexleyheath and Crayford MP, said: “Crayford needs a post office and the town has been disadvantaged since the closure of the previous branch. I have been campaigning vigorously with local councillors for a new branch to open in the town. This is brilliant news for local residents and local businesses.
“I also hope the new location will encourage even more people to use the fantastic facilities in Crayford Library”.
The branch will open from 9:30am - 5:30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 9:30am - 7:30pm; Wednesday and 9:30am - 5pm on Saturday.
