I WAS scared to death, I thought they were going to kill me so I ran for my life.
I WAS scared to death, I thought they were going to kill me so I ran for my life."
Speaking an hour after his ordeal, Arben Morina recalls the moment two' crazed maniacs' armed with crowbars attacked workers at a car wash.
The two walked up to Mr Morina, 38, and Lul Gruda, 38, of Moria Road, Erith, who were washing cars at Swanscombe Auto Centre in Milton Road, Swanscombe, last Wednesday.
They demanded money and beat the men over the head and body with their crowbars, chasing one of them into a side office.
Mr Morina, with blood still on his hands and arms, said: "I held on to the door handle with all my strength but they started smashing the door down with their crowbars.
"I thought they were going to kill me. They were crazy like, they seemed to be crackheads, I've never been so scared."
When the robbers could not force their way into an adjacent office they ran out on to the forecourt and into a waiting car.
The two victims, who came from Kosovo 10 years ago, recognised their assailants, one of which was in their mid-30s, the other aged about 20.
They believe they were clients who had their car washed two weeks earlier and had a gripe about what they were charged.
He said: "We didn't have any money so I tried to calm them down, but one stabbed his bar towards my face and it caught my leg as I moved back.
"I pleaded with him to stop."
After the robbers fled the alarm was raised and within minutes seven police cars swooped on Milton Road.
Lisa Ewing, 36, of The Grove heard police sirens from her kitchen which overlooks the auto centre.
She said: "They closed the road off and re-directed traffic."
Their attackers are thought to live in the Swanscombe area; the older man had a blotchy red face, blond hair and was wearing jeans and a brown top.
The car they left in was old and red, roughly an L-registration.
Police have since arrested and released on bail two men, aged 28 and 20, who are both from the Swanscombe area.
A North Kent Police spokeswoman said: "North Kent's Neighbourhood Task Team have increased patrols of the area." Call Detective Constable Amy Burrows on 01474 366098 with any information.
