The latest open day at Crossness Pumping Station in Abbey Wood takes place today.

The local history and steaming day, the penultimate one of the year, runs from 10.30am to 5pm at the Belvedere Road Victorian sewage treatment works.

It is one of the only two Grade I listed industrial buildings in London and it also has the world’s largest working rotative beam engine, which will be steaming throughout the day.

The day will appeal to engineering and steam buffs, not to mention those into industrial heritage and indeed anyone who enjoys history and has a sense of wonder.

Admission costs £5 for adults while under 16s go free. Call 0208 311 3711 for more information.
