Death crash: woman denies driving charge

A STEP-MOTHER has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of her pregnant daughter-in law by dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention.

A STEP-MOTHER has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of her pregnant daughter-in law by dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention.

Ceyda Ozkan, 32, of St German's Road, Forest Hill, appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday in connection with the crash in Well Hall Road, Eltham on New Year's Day.

Her daughter-in-law Filiz Ozkan, 21, from Catford, was in the front passenger seat when the vehicle smashed into a tree at approximately 1.40am.

She was days away from giving birth to her first child, a baby girl.

Other injured passengers in the car included an eight-year-old boy, a 28-year-old man and a girl who have since been discharged from hospital.

Ozkan was bailed to appear at Woolwich Crown Court for trial on January 4, 2010.
