Derelict Sidcup factory ablaze

The clock tower of a derelict factory in Sidcup was ravaged by fire last night (May 15).

Sidcup fire station watch manager Simon Hilary said: “Although it is a listed building it is quite a hazardous site so the firefighters did a very good job to contain the fire quickly, given challenging circumstances.”

Four fire engines, two from Sidcup station and one each from Eltham and Orpington attended the blaze at the Richard Klinger factory on Edgington Way. Twenty one firefighters and officers tackled the blaze.

The brigade was called at 2009 and the fire was under control within an hour and a half.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and police.
