AN ASIAN rail worker received a torrent of abuse about his religion from a passenger without a valid ticket.

AN ASIAN rail worker received a torrent of abuse about his religion from a passenger without a valid ticket.

The passenger left Cannon Street Station after the incident on November 24 at about 5.15pm but officers believe he may have been travelling to either Erith or Plumstead.

After staff spotted him accessing the platform without a valid ticket, he was asked to return to the ticket barriers.

He complied but then hurled abuse towards a member of staff before threatening to punch him. PC Luke Hamilton-Wargent said: "Verbal abuse of any sort is unacceptable, but the nature of the insults levelled at this man was nothing short of despicable.

"The victim was extremely distressed and upset by the comments, which no-one should have to suffer."
