Eltham MP Clive Efford yesterday criticised plans to shoot down terrorists over Greenwich during the Olympics because he has not been consulted
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is considering placing batteries of surface to air missiles near Oxleas Wood cafe in Shooters Hill and in Blackheath during the Games.
Mr Efford is annoyed that he has not been asked about temporary plans.
He is also worried about the area of Oxleas, a vast area of protected woodland and home to rare plant species.
Mr Efford said: “My main problem is I’ve not been consulted about this prior to it happening.
“I’m not opposed in principle to ensuring we’ve got a proper security arrangement for the Olympics.”
He is writing to Defence Minister Philip Hammond about his concerns.
A MoD spokesman said: “Based on military advice we have identified a number of sites and, alongside the Metropolitan Police, we are talking to local authorities and relevant landowners to help minimise the impact of any temporary deployments.”
