Sophie Lockwood, 18, (pictured above)from Bexleyheath, was crowned winner at the Miss English Rose beauty contest in Southport.

After being picked from 7,000 eager hopefuls, the former Bexleyheath Grammar School girl attended the finals where she glided through several interviews, a swimsuit and evening wear competition to finally be crowned with the prestigious title.

Winning the title, as well as £500 cash and a modelling contract worth £1,500, Sophie said: "I was really shocked, I hadn't done anything like it before."

She plans to continue her modelling while studying an events management degree at the University of Brighton.
