Erith and Sidcup firefighters called to three tonne rubbish blaze in Thamesmead

Crews were called at 4.20am

An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire at a rubbish tip in Thamesmead on Thursday morning.

Approximately three tonnes of rubbish stored in a concrete compartment had caught alight in Nathan Way.

Firefighters from Erith, Sidcup, Plumstead, east Greenwich and Greenwich stations were called to the scene at around 4.20am.

Crews spent more than three hours at the scene, bringing the fire under control at 7.50am.
