Erith man charged with attempted murder

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, assaulting police and criminal damage among a host of offences after a 49-year-old man was stabbed in Avenue Road, Erith, last week.

Ben Payne, of Snelling Road, appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court last Thursday (October 25) and was remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court today (November 1).

Bexley CID Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes said: “I am glad to say the victim, as well as Poppy the Rottweiler who was injured in the attack, are recovering and I want to reassure the community we take a zero tolerance to all forms of violent crime.”
