An Erith student who attempted to steal an iPad he had arranged to buy through Gumtree has avoided jail.

Olamide Adeogun, of Maran Way, was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Croydon Crown Court last Friday.

Adeogun had pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and he was sentenced to a six month night-time curfew.

The 21-year-old arranged to meet the victim, a 34-year-old woman who was advertising the gadget, at New Beckenham train station in Bromley on August 9 last year.

She came with her 36-year-old husband and Adeogun said he had a knife and attempted to steal the iPad.

The husband struggled with him and punched him in the eye before calling the police.

Adoegun was arrested at the scene and was taking to hospital for treatment before being charged.
