Essex explosion reverberates in Bexleyheath, Dartford and Gravesend

Houses in Bexley and Dartford shook last night following a chemical explosion in Essex.

Two men were injured in the explosion at Industrial Chemical Ltd in Thurrock at around 8pm, frightening residents on both sides of the Thames.

Louis Mendez said on Twitter: “Lot’s of tweets about a massive bang in Dartford. Someone check the bridge is still there.”

Elaine Hanna added: “Just a little explosion yer right that’s why dartford and surrounding areas heard it!!!!”

Some people noted there was a strong chlorine smell and an investigation has been launched into what caused the explosion.

Industrial Chemical Ltd make a range of products including water treatment chemicals and detergents.
