Extra police patrols are taking place in the Northumberland Heath area following a mass brawl that took place earlier this week.

Every available police officer in the borough was deployed to deal with the incident on Monday evening, when violence erupted between more than 100 youths.

Bexley Police yesterday issued Direction to Leave notices in the area of Bexleyheath Town Centre and Northumberland Heath, which will remain in place until 2pm on Saturday.

People in these areas causing crime or disorder, or acting in a manner likely to cause members of the public to be harassed, alarmed or distressed, will be directed to leave.

Failure to comply with the order could result in a three-month prison sentence or a fine of up to £2,500.
