KIDS can be turned into imaginary pirates and lions at a shopping centre by having their faces painted.

A face painter will be at Erith Riverside Shopping Centre today from 11am to 4pm to keep children entertained by transforming them into lions, tigers, butterflies, pirates or whatever their imagination conjures up.

It is part of a free series of events running throughout August, last week saw crowds entertained by a juggler on a unicycle.

After weeks of summer showers hitting the region, centre manager Barry Owen said: "We thought it was about time to put some sparkle back into the typical British summer.
