ARSON and hoax 999 calls are down, according to a report by the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

In Bexley last year there were 404 cases of arson which is down by a third from 2006/7 and the number of hoax calls from 41 to 73 the year before.

These figures were announced in a fire guide How we are making your borough safer published by the LFB.

Bexley Commander, Cyril O'Brien said: "It is great but we won't be complacent.

"It is clear that with over 40 per cent of Bexley's serious fires occurring in people's homes there is still a lot of work needed to improve community safety.
