BAD TIMES: Firefighters inspect charred warehouses.

FIREFIGHTERS returned to a garden centre on happier terms than three months earlier when two warehouse were ravaged by flames.

Sidcup fire service gave demonstrations of their work as part of Ruxley Manor Garden Centre's annual family day last Saturday.

The garden centre, Maidstone Road, Sidcup, lost all of its stock in a huge blaze ahead of one of its busiest weekends of the year in April. Hundreds of shoppers had to be evacuated.

At Saturday's family day entertainment was provided by Dixie Land Phoenix Jazz Band, Wacko the Clown and a gifted magician.

Ruxley Beekeepers provided an insight into the plight of the honeybee, and younger visitors had plenty to keep them occupied, including a 65ft inflatable assault run.

They were joined by Kent Air Ambulance, Kent Wildlife Trust and the Hedgehog Preservation Society.

A raffle was held in aid of the centre's chosen charity, Demelza Children's Hospice.
