AN ELEVEN-day international arts festival featuring some of the best performing artists in the world will take place this summer.

Greenwich and Docklands International Festival (GDIF) runs from June 24 until July 4.

The free festival promises outdoor spectacles, fresh and original contemporary theatre, dance, interactive experiences and participatory events.

The festival will have an earth theme, with audiences encouraged to look at the environment in new ways as well as being presented with fresh perspectives on familiar landscapes and settings.

The festival has been devised as a journey of discovery, enabling audiences to take in performances across historic maritime Greenwich, the Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf, Stratford and Woolwich.

Artistic director Bradley Hemmings has masterminded the growth of the festival from a local event to one of London's most distinctive and best-loved festivals, which attracted more than 50,000 people last year.

The festival was recently recognised with two prestigious BT Visit London Awards.
