THE finest eateries across the borough are soaking up the glory as the long-awaited regional winners of Archant s Food and Drink Awards 2009 were finally confirmed.
THE finest eateries across the borough are soaking up the glory as the long-awaited regional winners of Archant's Food and Drink Awards 2009 were finally confirmed.
More than 650 restaurants entered the competition across the Greater London area to find the best eateries and with an astonishing 2.5million votes, readers put their money where their mouth was in choosing their favourite establishments.
Mohammad Lechu Miah, owner of Best Indian restaurant, Sultana, in Sidcup High Street, said: "It's great. We provide good vale for money and good service so that must be why our customers voted for us. Our staff will be pleased.
"We have been in Sidcup since 1994, a long time."
Edward Donavan, 42, who runs Thai Dynasty in Bellogrove Road, Welling, which won best Bexley Thai restaurant, said: "I am very pleased. We gave out the leaflets to our customers and clearly they voted for us.
"We are a family run business and have been here for 17 years. We still have the same chef as when we started.
"We source our food from local areas as well as Thailand. None of it is processed.
"We make up all our own sauces - we don't buy it in. I have been in the restaurant trade all my life. It is very competitive but enjoyable."
Executive Managing Director of Archant London, Enzo Testa, said: "The Archant London Food and Drink Awards are increasing in popularity every year.
"This is evidenced by the record number of entries that we have received this year from all categories of restaurants throughout our readership areas.
"At the close of voting, more than 2.5 million votes had been cast, demonstrating that people are keen to vote for and support their favourite local eatery.
"We look forward to announcing the overall winners soon."
