A HUGE blaze in a car breaker's yard required 70 firefighters to put it out.

Eleven crews from around London and Kent were called to the RJK Vehicle Services yard, in Landau Way, Erith, at 2am on Tuesday morning.

Erith firefighter Darrell George said: "When we turned up there were at least 100 cars alight and it was spreading.

"There was thick black smoke coming up. We had to start moving lots of gas cylinders away so they didn't get involved too."

The fire was under control by 8am but firefighters did not know how it started.
