A THAMES-SIDE town has drawn an unlikely comparison to the glamorous coastline of Florida.

Erith might be more suited to TV shows, such as Cops with Cameras, than the sunglasses adorned detectives of CSI Miami, but one artist has shown the sexier side of one of the borough's grittier haunts.

Justin Bailey's first photographic exhibition of 30 colour and black and white photos, Eye to Eye, goes on display at Erith library for two weeks from Monday, November 2.

One picture, Florida or Erith?, has also appeared on the BBC's news magazine website in their unsung views feature.

Mr Bailey, 35, of Manor Road, has lived in Erith since 2001 and said: "The town does have a reputation for being a bit rough, but if you look closely there are some really good parts like the pier, river front and marshes.

"At the right time and in the right light Erith can look great. I've taken one night shot from the pier which is one of my favourites and if I ever had to leave, the pier and the River Thames I would miss the most."

Despite only becoming an amateur photographer in 2004, he has since had work published by National Geographic.
