Route across railway line has been closed since April

The footbridge across the railway line on Gypsy Road, Welling. has re-opened.

It had been closed in April by Network Rail after corrosion had caused faults in the bridge’s structure.

The news has been welcomed by Bexley Council leader Teresa O’Neill OBE who was among those pressing for work on the bridge, which is well used, particularly by school children and their parents, to be carried out as quickly as possible.

Cllr O’Neill said: “I am delighted that the footbridge will re-open in time for the autumn school term”.

The bridge is due to be completely renewed in 2018/2019.
