FREE guided tours of the Royal Observatory are on offer next month.

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich is offering free historical and architectural talks and guided tours on Saturday, September 10, from 11am to 5pm.

The day offers visitors a chance to learn more about one of the world's most important historic scientific sites and tour the award-winning new Astronomy Centre and Peter Harrison Planetarium.

Hourly guided tours begin at 11am with an introduction to the history of Flamsteed House, the Observatory's original building.

Architects from Allies and Morrison, the firm which redeveloped the south side more than a year ago, will be conducting the tours.

The hourly historical talk about the site begins at 11.30am and slides will illustrate its life from 1675 until now.

Tickets are on a first come, fist saved basis.
