YOUNG people can test themselves for sexually transmitted infections with a free kit.

YOUNG people can test themselves for sexually transmitted infections with a free kit.

Young people aged 15 to 24 in Bexley, Greenwich and Bromley can order a Chlamydia testing kit in seconds by visiting a website or their GP's surgery.

The initiative, rolled out on Monday, is part of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme, which also allows kits to be collected from youth advisory clinics and some pharmacies.

Both males and females need only send a urine sample off to the lab in order to get results by text, letter or e-mail within days.

Chlamydia is the most commonly diagnosed sexually transmitted infection and has become more common since the 1990s.

One-in-ten 15 to 24-year-olds test positive for the infection, which can be carried without any symptoms.

To get a kit visit www.checkurself.org.uk.
