The family of a Bexley teenager who died of cancer in 2013 are organising the next ‘A Song for Aiden’, a fundraising concert held every other year in their sons memory.

His family set up the Aiden Goodwin Foundation, which provides children who are fighting cancer with some time away with their families. Aiden Goodwin was diagnosed with a rare tumour on his kidney in January 2012.

Sadly none of the treatment helped Aiden, and the tumour eventually spread to his liver, spine and pelvis before Aiden lost his battle against the disease in November 2013 at 13 years old.

His family set up the Aiden Goodwin Foundation, which provides children who are fighting cancer with some time away with their families or days out to make some happy memories.

Aiden’s dad Terry said: “I have a group of really talented friends and they offered to put on a concert to raise money for the charity, and it’s gone on from there.

“We decided to carry it on and everyone enjoys it.

“When Aiden was ill we were lucky enough to be offered a week at a caravan through another charity, and after he died we felt that we would like to do something similar.

“Hospitals and hospices come to us saying they have a family and we book them into one of our caravans - we have two now and have families in them every week.

“It’s good that they’re used so much but it’s also sad to see how many children are ill.

“When we read the messages that the parents and children write to us it makes it so worth while.”

In the first year of the concert the family raised £3,300, and on the years that the concert doesn’t take place, a charity ball is arranged instead.

“The whole point is to raise money and awareness on the charity,” said Terry.

“We are only a small team, there are four of us running it so it’s a good way to get our name out there and keep Aiden’s memory alive.”

A Song for Aiden will take place on Saturday September 15 at the Miskin Theatre in Dartford.

One performance will take place at 4pm and one at 7pm.
