THE curator of a gallery has collected 500 signatures on a petition to get the venue included on town signs after the council forced her to remove her sandwich board.

Louise Forrester, 27, who manages the Viewfinder Gallery in Peyton Place, Greenwich, says the number of people visiting the gallery will drop after a planning enforcement officer told her the board needed to be removed.

She is now campaigning to get the gallery named on the small fingerpost signs dotted around Greenwich to encourage people back to the venue.

She said: "We didn't know it wasn't allowed. It has been there for four years without a problem.

"It had the name of the gallery, an arrow and details of the exhibition.

"We're off the beaten track and there is nothing to show where we are."

A spokesperson for Greenwich council said: "There are no current proposals to renew signs in Greenwich town centre, other than some minor changes to reflect the new Discover Greenwich centre that was opened this week.

"Any proposals to replace the signs would need to be placed before councillors for a decision and we would seek the views of local galleries and other interested parties before making any decision.
