Merchant Navy veteran thanks them for their generosity

PEOPLE in Bexleyheath and Welling have donated an incredible £64,000 to the Royal British Legion in the past nine months.

And they have been thanked for their generosity by a Merchant Navy veteran who was tasked with keeping oil tankers safe after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The collection has been running since September last year and a significant proportion of the cash has been donated by shoppers at the Broadway shopping centre in Bexleyheath.

Ken Sprowles, treasurer for the Legion’s Bexleyheath and Welling branch, said: “We are very grateful to the public for their generosity and to the management team at the Broadway for their continued support.”
