History of Erith riverside to be explored

A local historian will be talking about the history of Erith riverside from the founding of its Dockyard by Henry VIII and the fitting to its part in the D-Day landings.
Ken Chamberlain is due to give a talk at Erith library in Erith High Street, on Wednesday, March 30, at 2pm, when he will look back to the 19th century when the area was known as a riverside resort.
The town’s industrial heritage will also be explored as well as how one firm laid an underwater pipeline across the English Channel and its connection with the D-Day landings.
