A HORTICULTURAL society is bracing itself for the best ever show in its history after a bumper harvest.

Falconwood and District Horticultural Society is hosting its 72nd annual "gardener friendly" show on Saturday, August 15 at Falconwood Community Centre, Welling.

This year there are 90 classes, from photography, cake making and children's classes as well as the traditional flower and vegetable sections.

Society chairman, Nigel Betts, said: "Although many gardeners are quick to dismiss their own efforts, we all have something we can show, whether it is a house plant, a cactus or an entry for the cake section.

"In recent years we have had some really good shows, but this year, we would like to surpass this with more people taking part."

Exhibitors need to register by 11am on August 15, whilst visitors can enjoy a cream tea when the doors open for viewing at 3pm.

Copies of the show's schedule are available by calling 020 8304 2489 or on collection from Welling Library or Falconwood Community Centre.
