An armed robbers who targeted bookmakers and post offices, stealing nearly £5,000, has been jailed.

Marcus Moore, 33, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison on Tuesday after admitting to carrying out four robberies, and attempting another three, two of which were in Sidcup.

On February 1, Moore tried to rob a bookmakers in the town while armed with a fake gun, then just days later on February 6, attempted another robbery at the post office on Sidcup High Street.

Over the next nine days, he went on to rob bookmarkers in Newham and Essex as well as stealing a television and ID cards from a Bromley property on February 9.

The last robbery came on February 15, had stolen £4,818.

Detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad arrested Moore the following day after analysis of CCTV footage linked him to the incidents.

Moore would later tell police he carried out the robberies to fund a heroin addiction he had developed.

He was charged, and on March 21 admitted to seven counts of possession of a firearm and one charge of theft on top of the robbery and attempted robbery offences.

Detective Constable Katie Scott, of the Met’s Flying Squad, said: “The recent spate of robberies posed a serious danger, not just to the employees of the bookmaking industry, but to the people of London as a whole.

“Marcus Moore is a ruthless, career criminal who carried out these acts of violence to fund his drug addiction.

“As a result of this prosecution Moore is now behind bars for a significant period of time.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victims and witnesses of these frightening offences who had the bravery to support the investigation.”
