Crayford Creek-based Viridor Waste Management Ltd has been fined £75,000 and made to pay £35,000 in costs for illegally exporting plastic waste.

The firm was found guilty of illegally exporting the waste to the United Arab Emirates. Company managers admitted shipping tonnes of non-hazardous plastic in 25 containers between December 2006 and January 2007.

On Monday Maidstone Crown Court heard the plastic had been exported by commercial manager Robert Doran against the wishes of managing director John Viviani.

Viridor failed to get the required written consent from the UK and the country of destination.

They admitted five charges of illegally shipping plastic waste.
