A HOUSING development has won a top industry award for its sensitive treatment of a historic building project.

Berkeley Homes and the London Development Agency (LDA) picked up the award for Best Historic Building Management at the London Planning Awards for the Royal Arsenal Riverside in Woolwich.

The award was given out during a ceremony at City Hall on March 29.

Tom Keady, Head of Development at the London Development Agency said: "Royal Arsenal Riverside is a model for urban regeneration and shows how heritage buildings can become desirable places for people both to live and work.

"It is a continuing success story in London's wider regeneration."

The award was given to recognise the project to convert historic buildings on the site to housing in a way that is sympathetic to the area's heritage.

The development is part of the 76-acre former Military of Defence site that was once one of Britain's biggest sites for the manufacture of military equipment and munitions.
