International Women’s day was marked with a new initiative in Bexley aiming to improve women’s motor skills.

SMaRT Women held its first session on Friday (8) which will try to give females more confidence along with an understanding of basic vehicle safety and maintenance checks.

Bexley Council leader Cllr Teresa O’Neill attended the first session at the SmaRT garage in the Acorn Industrial Estate in Crayford.

She said: “It’s important to have a basic knowledge of car maintenance and safety. All too often I’ve felt out of my comfort zone when something simple has gone wrong with my car.

“This is an excellent initiative that I am sure will help many women in the borough.”

SMaRT stands for Socially Minded and Responsible Trading’ and all courses at the garage are run by women for women.

They are developed and delivered by the charity First Step Trust.
