A PANTOMINE cast led by star actress Claire Sweeney has launched the Kentish Times third Christmas toy appeal.

Children in hospital over the festive season will be presented with gifts donated by generous readers and web audiences.

The cast of Sleeping Beauty including Claire, jumped at the chance to launch this year's bonanza of kindness.

The past two years has seen our readers donate thousands of thoughtful gifts. Small businesses and individuals' generosity did not waver despite the economy going on a downward spiral.

And now this year we want our appeal to be as generous as ever and all we ask is for our readers to spare a thought for the children who will not be at home this Christmas.

Wicked witch Carrion Claire Sweeney urged readers to give generously. Claire is appearing this year at The Churchill Theatre, Bromley.

She said: "I am very lucky as I have never had any young relatives in hospital. If anyone sees a toy, buy it as it will make someone's Christmas happy.

"This is a wonderful appeal. Please give it your support."

Prince Charming and director of the show George Wood added: "When you are out in the Glades, doing your Christmas shopping, make sure there is one extra present to pick up for children in hospital."

All we ask is that readers contribute a toy and send it or bring it to one of our offices and we will make a special delivery to all the hospitals in the area - Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, Princess Royal Hospital, in Farnborough, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, and Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford.

The cast of the Sleeping Beauty, who begin their rehearsals for the show next week, will join our readers in buying an extra special present this Christmas.

TOYS should be suitable for children aged 0-16 years and come unwrapped, in their original packaging. Examples of what we do want are: puzzles, dolls, plastic farm animals, arts and crafts, books, cars, train sets, wooden toys, CDs, stereos, personal stereos, DVDs, DVD players, PlayStation 2 games, all sizes of nightwear, baby toys, musical instruments.
