Bexley councillors gave the go-ahead last week

Delays in adopting could drop as plans to partner three local authorities are drawn up.

A Regional Adoption Agency between Bexley Borough Council, Medway Council and Kent County Council could be developed, as a Bexley councillors gave the go-ahead last week.

The arrangement would create a wider pool of adopters, with less delays for children waiting for a family.

Cabinet member for children’s services at Bexley council, Phillip Read, said: “We are already part of a consortium arrangement with Kent and Medway and so it makes perfect sense for us to work together as a regional agency.

“The new arrangements will help to eradicate duplication, streamline processes and make the whole experience better and faster for the most important person of all – the child. I look forward to seeing the project develop.”
